Dr. Laura S. Hobbs was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From a young age, she wanted to be a Tar Heel and a dentist. In high school, her family relocated to Winston-Salem, and she was able to achieve her dream of studying at UNC Chapel Hill. With a passion for creative writing, art, and math, she ended up focusing on journalism, specifically advertising, with minors in German and art history. After a year of working in a nationally renowned advertising agency, Dr. Hobbs longed for a more community-focused career. Shadowing area dentists confirmed her passion for health care, and she enrolled in pre-dental courses. One year later, she was back in Chapel Hill at the UNC School of Dentistry for a DDS degree.
In dental school, Dr. Hobbs immersed herself in pediatric rotations, community service organizations, and dental implants. She served on the admissions committee and enjoys mentoring pre-dental students of various backgrounds.
After graduation, Dr. Hobbs realized she was now a North Carolinian for life and moved to Charlotte to join the collaborative team at Charlotte Dentistry. She strives to see each patient as an individual, working with patients to create the best treatment plan for their unique desires and needs. She especially likes working with children and doing cosmetic dentistry. Whenever possible, she volunteers with local dental clinics to provide free care. Her memberships include:
- American Dental Association
- North Carolina Dental Society
- Charlotte Dental Society
When not cheering on all teams Pittsburgh and UNC (and now her husband’s Alabama Crimson Tide), Dr. Hobbs and her husband spend as much time as possible in the mountains, hiking and skiing, and spending time with their rescue dog. She also likes reading (and listening) to books and cooking for her family. They are expecting their second child in the summer of 2020.
