When Should You Be Concerned Over Your Child’s Teeth Alignment?

Attractive Boy Making Silly FaceIt’s a question we get often:  At what age should you start looking at your child’s teeth alignment and evaluate whether or not orthodontics may be needed?

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children should be seen for their first orthodontics consultation by age seven.  This may seem very young—a child typically is only beginning to have permanent teeth come in—but it can be very beneficial in allowing both the child and dental professionals to “get ahead of the curve” and take action before bigger problems may occur.

Orthodontics isn’t just about keeping teeth straight.  Proper orthodontics can also provide help with speech impediments, proper chewing and swallowing, jaw or TMJ pain,  and other conditions.

Because Charlotte Dentistry practices general dentistry, orthodontics, and cosmetic dentistry our staff can provide evaluations for children as part of their routine checkups.  We can advise you whether or not you may need to consider orthodontics for your child before small problems become larger ones.

Ask about this when you bring your child for his or her next checkup.

Bring your whole family to one convenient location for all their dental needs.
