February is Children’s Dental Health Month

Elementary School Kids Group Isolated

February is Children’s Dental Health Month and a great time to make sure your children are up to date on their dental checkups.

Although dental cavities are largely preventable, they remain the most common chronic childhood disease. According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, 42 percent of children ages 2-11 have cavities in their baby teeth and 21 percent of children ages 6-11 have them in their adult teeth. Children with decay in ‘baby’ teeth are at a higher risk for decay in their permanent teeth. Proper brushing and flossing techniques, a healthy diet, dental sealants and community water fluoridation can help reduce the risk for decay.

Charlotte Dentistry recommends to have your child’s first dental checkup around 3-4 years of age, unless you see an obvious problem or concern. Establishing a friendly dental home from an early age can set the stage for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Children love to imitate their parents, so serve as a good role model by practicing good dental hygiene habits.

Charlotte Dentistry is open 6 days a week so serve all your families dental needs. New patients are always welcomed and appreciated. To schedule an appointment visit
