Laughter: The Best Medicine

Has anyone ever tried to tell you a funny joke or story and they were laughing so hard you could not understand a single word they were saying? Still, not sure why they are laughing so hard, you can’t help but join in.

Shared belly laughs are the best ever. They brighten your mood and just plain make you feel good. Proverbs 15:30 states “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.” See laughing is good for you, it’s biblical!

But scientists, being scientists wanted to put some science behind the positive effects of laughter on the brain (that’s a whole lot of science). Studies show in the short term, laughter increases your intake of oxygen and stimulates your organs and boosts circulation. A good laugh also releases endorphins, which gives you a sense of well being and helps reduce stress and tension. Following a good laugh, the muscles in the body may remained relaxed for almost an hour. Stress can reek havoc on your body. 15 minutes a day of good fun laughing can increase blood flow, which is good for your heart, helps boost your immune system, works your core, and helps you deal with pain tolerance and depression.

Have a game night, play charades or Pictionary. Let your guard down, and just be silly.
