5 Tips to Maintain Clean Teeth

Maintaining clean teeth is a simple task. That is, if you know what you should and should not be doing. In fact, there is more to keeping your teeth clean than simply brushing. Here are five tips that will help you maintain clean, healthy, white teeth that are easy to do each day.

Change Your Eating and Drinking Habits

In order to maintain clean teeth, you want to make sure you’re avoiding foods that damage your enamel and cause plaque to build up, eventually causing staining. Essentially, you want to avoid red wine, smoking, coffee, and tea. In addition, you should avoid soda, dark-colored juices, and gravy. As you have noticed, all of these foods and drinks are dark in color, and that’s what causes staining to your teeth. If you do consume any of these foods or drinks, it is important that you brush immediately, or eat a natural teeth-cleaning agent, such as an apple.

Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly

Surprisingly, your toothbrush holds plaque and bacteria that can cause further damage to your teeth and gums. If you want to have clean teeth, it is recommended that you replace your toothbrush, or electric toothbrush head, at least every two to three months. Remember, a clean toothbrush means you will have clean teeth.

Brush Two Times per Day

One of the most important habits you should develop is brushing your teeth twice per day. As soon as you wake in the morning, brush. Before you go to bed at night, brush. Saliva plays an important role in helping to keep bacteria in your mouth at bay, and during the night the saliva dries up. Essentially, removing the bacteria before going to bed, and first thing in the morning, takes care of what the saliva can’t while you’re sleeping.

Use Baking Soda Regularly

In order to really get clean, white teeth, it is recommended that you use baking soda at least once each week. You place a little baking soda on your toothbrush and brush, just as you would with regular toothpaste. The baking soda helps eliminate bacteria and odor-causing agents in your mouth, and helps to whiten teeth naturally.

Floss Often

Although your dentist tells you that you need to floss at least once a day, to boost the cleanliness of your teeth and gums, you should floss after each meal. It is recommended that you carry floss with you and get in the habit of flossing without the use of a mirror. This will allow you to remove plaque and food that builds up in between your teeth during eating, at any given point throughout the day. In order to keep up with your daily flossing, have floss with you at all times. You can store it in your desk at work, in your car, at the office, or even in your purse, so that you will learn to develop good flossing habits.

As you can see, it is actually quite simple to keep clean teeth. Be sure to brush twice daily, floss regularly, use baking soda, replace your toothbrush regularly, and avoid foods that stain and damage your teeth. Following these simple, dentist-approved tips will ensure that you have clean teeth, healthy gums, and good overall dental hygiene.
