Get to Know Dr. Tara S. Woodroof, DMD

A healthy and beautiful smile can transform someone’s life. Ensuring this is at the heart of Dr. Woodroof, who combines her experience and expertise in dentistry to provide a service you deserve.

Dr. Woodroof took an interest in the medical field while she was in college. She shadowed several physicians who told her what a great field dentistry was. She started shadowing dentists and was hired to work as an assistant in a pediatric office one summer. This is when she became truly interested in the profession and knew it’s what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. The craftsmanship and skill that would involve working with her hands made her feel that dentistry would allow her to express a part of herself while helping people.

One of the most fulfilling things about being a dentist for her is the ability to transform an esthetic aspect of someone that they aren’t proud of, helping to improve their self esteem and change their overall self perception. Being able to help people while building a trusted relationship is an incredibly powerful thing for her.

She dislikes the fact that so many people have had negative past experiences with dentists. They become terrified of the dentist and this fear is often transferred to their families. Dr. Woodroof and her amazing team of assistants believe the image of dentists could use a facelift and are committed to using a reassuring approach to make their patients feel safe. She works very hard to cater each dental appointment to that particular person’s needs. Oftentimes, it takes only one positive experience to completely change a patient’s feelings toward dental care.

Dr. Woodroof grew up in Aiken, SC and received her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Carolina. She went on to earn her dental degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She and her husband, Will, moved to Charlotte shortly after dental school graduation and she has been working at Charlotte Dentistry ever since. They welcomed their adorable son, Charlie, into their family last year.

The Woodroofs enjoy their nightly walk around the neighborhood, which helps them unwind at the end of the day. Dr. Woodroof enjoys cooking healthy meals with her family but has a major weakness for French fries and jelly beans. She loves running and has completed two half marathons. Her favorite vacation was to San Diego where she and her husband ran their first race. They are grateful to be part of the Charlotte community and enjoy watching Panthers and Hornets games and biking through the city. Participating in the Missions of Mercy clinic allows her to give back to the community.

Dr. Woodroof loves to laugh and has been known to play practical jokes on her family and friends (and coworkers!) She absolutely loves April Fool’s Day. She enjoys the camaraderie between our dentists and feels that the sense of teamwork we have translates into a warm and welcoming environment for our patients.

Bring your whole family to one convenient location for all their dental needs.
