If there’s one procedure in dentistry that falls into the kind of, this is a miracle procedure, to me it’s always been dental implants. It is so neat in my mind that we can take a patient who is missing teeth and put a tooth back there again. That we have the technology now to be able to do that and do that in a way that is comfortable for the patient and give them a tooth back where they didn’t have a tooth before is an incredible thing and we do that with dental implants. So obviously we need teeth to chew and eat with and if we don’t have teeth it makes it very difficult to eat our food. So implants serve a functional purpose in that they put those teeth back and allow us to eat and chew our food. Sometimes implants are used to help support things like dentures and partials when people are missing a lot of teeth, and that can really help them to have teeth that don’t move around or don’t feel loose or uncomfortable as they eat and chew. So there’s the functional aspect of implants.
The other aspect is that if you’re missing a front tooth that makes a big, big difference in how your smile looks. And to be able to put a tooth back there where we don’t have to involve other teeth, we can do that with dental implants. And so there’s a big aesthetic benefit to dental implants as well.
