I love helping people. So, you know, when I started coming along trying to figure out what I wanted to do, I liked to work with my hands and I liked helping people. And so I met a couple of dentists in undergrad. I went to UNC Charlotte for undergrad, and one of them happened to be an orthodontist here in town. So he kind of took me under his wings and, “Hey, why don’t you come see what I do?” And, you know, I saw how much he loved it, how much he just loved working with people and helping people. So I started getting around the field a little bit, getting my hands wet and just loved it. I just kind of fell in love with it. I got to work with my hands, got to help people, make them smile again, which is really fantastic. And so that’s kind of how I got into dentistry.
I love when somebody comes in and they say, after a procedure, they say, well, that wasn’t that bad. That’s what I love. Because that means I did my job. When they come in and they’re afraid, they’re scared to death to be at the dentist. They’ve had a bad experience, something like that. And then I can make that a good experience for them. I love that. So that’s great. And so I say, hey, look, this was great. I had a great experience today. And just helping people, letting them smile again. You know, people come in and they say, I’m ashamed. I’m ashamed of my smile. I don’t smile anymore. That hurts me. I mean, it really does. It hurts me. And so when I can restore that smile and see somebody, you know, with this bright white smile, it really just touches me. So I love that part of dentistry.
